KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has added a second French built ATR 72 aircraft to its fleet on Saturday.
Under the new fleet expansion plan, PIA is acquiring five fuel efficient ATR-72 aircrafts and this is the second one of them.
Each ATR 72 has a capacity of 70 seats and has been leased for a period of eight years.
PIA spokesman Muhammad Aamir Memon said ATR will be operated with an all-economy class configuration and will further reinforce PIA’s savings plans.
The PIA Chairman Nasser NS Jaffer expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Special Assistant on Aviation, Shujaat Azeem, for taking active interest in reviving PIA and for providing necessary funds for the purpose.
On induction of the latest ATR aircraft, Jaffer said now PIA would be in an even better position to rationalize its domestic routes to further facilitate passengers as the ATR would be flying on domestic and feeder routes and other short-haul sectors.
He hoped that all formalities would be completed by Pakistan International Airlines at the earliest for the aircraft to start operating in the PIA fleet.
With increase in the number of aircrafts in the PIA fleet, the airline will now be in a better position to offer additional flights and also increase flight frequency on existing profitable routes.
