Authorities investigate the causeof of the incident as firefighters battle one of Bangkok's deadliest nightclub fires in years
A tragic news update informs, atleast 27 people have been killed and 63 injured in a fire that tore through a bar in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday.
Footage posted on 'X' shows flames blasting out of the bar as people run out, some screaming, and some falling over.
Exact details were not immediately clear, but the fire was believed to have started at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, local media reported.
Firefighters were called to the scene just after midnight and discovered patrons fleeing through the flame-enveloped front door of the venue.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told journalists at the scene that 27 bodies have been recovered, and others have been taken to hospital.
He told reporters that based on survivor accounts, the pub rapidly filled with smoke after a fire broke out, forcing many to run to the back of the venue near the bathrooms, but there were no fire escapes.
The prime minister confirmed deaths to the Anwut Pho-ampai of the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, which operates a voluntary emergency rescue service.
Charnvirakul said he took initial details from a musician, who was performing at the bar at the time of the incident.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke near electrical equipment close to the stage, followed by a power outage and an explosion, though investigators have not yet confirmed the source of ignition.
Reports informed, the fire spread rapidly with thick smoke filling the venue and some victims were found in the rear restroom area, where patrons had apparently tried to escape the flames.
Bangkok's minister said, "there was a fire at the cut-out switch, and after that things happened very quickly. There was blasting and everybody tried to flee from the smoke and flames."
While "the cause of the fire is still under investigation," he added.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about fire safety standards and emergency exits in such venues, which has experienced other fatal nightclub fires in recent years.
