Mercury rises to 41°C

LAHORE: Heatwave has gripped the provincial capital as the mercury reached 41°C here on Thursday while Met Office predicted that the temperature will continue to rise during the next 24 hours.
MET officials said continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country. A shallow westerly wave is affecting Kashmir and its adjoining areas.
They predicted mainly hot and dry weather in most parts of the country. However, light rain-thunderstorm is expected at a few places in Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas, the added.
Following the increase in heat, the city witnessed a mushroom growth in roadside sellers of drinks, including Sharbat and lemonad. People are seen standing at the roadside stalls to quench their thirst. Similarly sale of ice has also increased in the city. Rainfall was recorded only at Kalam.
Thursday’s highest temperature was recorded at Jacobabad where the mercury reached 47°C. In Lahore, minimum temperature was 23.7°C. Humidity level was 21 percent.
