SHO among nine cops booked for killing labourer

NANKANA SAHIB: Mangtanwala police Thursday registered an FIR against nine police personnel, including SHO, for allegedly killing a labourer during a fake police encounter here on Thursday.

Arshad and his wife of Halan Syedan were at a bus stop at Morkhunda when police took them to a police station on suspicion of dacoits on Tuesday night. The police personnel allegedly tortured Arshad. Later, they took him to Bongan Kalan where they allegedly killed him in a fake police encounter. According to police, Arshad was an alleged dacoit and allegedly looting people when locals killed him. His family members and relatives protested against the police outside the Nankana Press Club on Wednesday. They appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu of the incident and provide them with justice.

Nankana Sahib District Police Officer Bilal Umar took notice of the incident and ordered registering a case against SHO Mangtanwala police station M Aslam, assistant Waqas Anwar and other seven police personnel on Thursday on the complaint of Arshad's brother, Rasheed Ahmed. Further investigation is under way.
