‘5,000 buildings geo-tagged in Lahore for security’

LAHORE: DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf has said the Lahore police have geo-tagged 5,000 sensitive buildings in the provincial metropolis and relevant data has been obtained to further improve security. The DIG in a press statement said soon after completing the project of Ops room, he planned to geo-tag all sensitive buildings of the city for better protection. Under this process, 1,517 banks, 128 hotels, 28 factories, 287 filling stations, 196 government offices, 96 hospitals, 255 markets, 820 religious places, including mosques and Imambargahs, 56 restaurants, 1,511 schools, 237 bakeries, 39 parks, 16 towers, 117 buildings of foreigners and five wedding halls had been geo-tagged. The beat officers will review security arrangements of these buildings on daily basis. During this process, police collected the latest information related to security audit of the buildings which included number of guards, cameras, walkthrough gates, etc.

 

Three held for attacking female polio worker

TOBA TEK SINGH: Gojra Sadar police on Friday arrested three youth for allegedly attacking a female polio worker at Gojra. Complainant lady health worker Sana Raheel was giving anti-polio vaccine to the children at Chak 435/JB near Gojra when accused Abdul Jabbar, Muhammad Ashraf and Asghar Ali allegedly teased her. When she offered resistance, they attacked her and snatched her gold ornaments worth Rs40,000.

 

Two women killed, 13 hurt in Pakpattan accident

PAKPATTAN: Two women were killed while 13 others sustained injuries in a road accident near Bonga Hayat on Friday. Reportedly, a speeding vehicle collided with a wagon on the Depalpur Road. As a result, Naseem Bibi and Bushra Bibi died on the pot while 13 others, including Aqsa, Sabaran Bibi, Namra, Nadia, Shazia, Sumera, Zareena, Muhammad Ahmad, Fauzia, Sadaf and Arshad, sustained injuries.

 

Suspected militant held

BANNU: The police arrested a suspected militant and recovered mortar shells from his possession, sources said on Friday. The police said a suspected person was stopped in Saifli Koroona in Havaid area and two mortar shells were recovered from his possession. The police arrested the suspect and shifted him to Havaid Police Station for interrogation.

 

Another accused held in Mashal case

BATKHELA: The police arrested an accused involved in the murder of Mashal Khan, sources said on Friday. They said that the police raided the house of one Imran Khan, student of Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan, in Zor Mandi in Palai in connection with the murder of Mashal Khan and arrested him. 

 

Two killed, one injured in Bajaur roadside blast

KHAR: A man and his son were killed while another son sustained injures in a roadside blast in the Bajaur Agency, official sources said on Friday. They said Gul Mast along with his sons Marwan and Farmanullah were on his way back in Shinkot area in Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency, after offering Friday prayers when the explosion occurred. As a result, Marwan died on the spot while Gul Mast and Farmanullah sustained injuries.  The injured were shifted to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Khar where Gul Mast also succumbed to his injuries.

 

Three boys injured in Quetta blast

QUETTA: Three boys were injured in a blast at the Zarghoon Road area of the provincial capital on Friday.  According to police sources, the blast occurred when the victims were near the garbage, leaving three boys injured on the spot.  The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital, where the victims were identified as Agha Muhammad, 12, Boor Muhammad, 14, and Atifullah, 10.  The police sources said the bomb was covered in a plastic bag and was kept by unknown men which went off. Law-enforcement agency personnel reached the site and cordoned off the area.

 

Two of a family injured in Nowshera firing

NOWSHERA: A man allegedly shot and injured his wife and his father-in-law at Banda Nabi in Pabbi tehsil on Friday, official sources said.  An injured Wateen Shah reported to the police that he was present at the house of his son-in-law Javed when he after exchanging harsh words fired at his daughter, Naseeha Bibi and him. As a result, he and Naseeha Bibi sustained injuries.  The accused fled the scene.  The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nowshera wherefrom Naseeha Bibi was shifted to a hospital in Peshawar for her precarious condition. The police arrested Rasheed Khan, brother of the accused and started investigation after registering the case.
