229 students awarded degrees at DUET’s 4th convocation

As many as 229 students were conferred on degrees in engineering and architecture disciplines at the fourth convocation of the Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) on Monday.

Nine students were awarded with silver medals for securing first position in their respective departments, and three gold medals were distributed among the top position holders of engineering and architecture faculties.

Fazeela Niazi, student of the energy and environment department, clinched three medals, including two gold medals and one silver. She bagged two gold medals for taking the overall first position at the DUET and its engineering faculty and one silver medal for securing first position in her department. 

Maria Sajid Zaheer was awarded with a gold medal and a silver medal for securing top position in the architecture faculty and in her department.

Danyal Khan, student of chemical engineering, Maham Mobin, student of computer system engineering, Faryal Anwar, student of electronic engineering, Fazeela Niazi, student of energy and environment, Muhammad Asim Aslam, student of industrial engineering, Muhammad Ahsan Rauf, student of metallurgy and materials engineering, Muhammad Anas Siddique, student of petroleum and gas engineering, and Ramsha Khalid, and student of telecommunication engineering, bagged silver medals for securing overall first positions in their departments.

In his speech, the DUET vice chancellor, Professor Dr Faizullah Abbasi, lauded the efforts of his university’s team to bring the desired changes in the university.

He said organising the fourth convocation in a row showed the stability of the university. “The DUET marked another momentous occasion by arranging the fourth consecutive convocation.”

He noted that the Dawood University was committed to taking the lead in developing the society and the nation by producing skilful engineers and architects.

Later, Dr Faizullah
Abbasi congratulated the students and parents on their achievements and lauded the Sindh government for taking keen interest in university’s development.

Besides, DUET Pro-VC Professor Dr Pir Roshan Din Shah Rashdi, Academic Coordinator Dr Dost Ali Khowaja, Registrar Engineer Captain Syed Waqar Hussain Shah, Academic Council members also attended the convocation held at the university’s auditorium.

Sindh Assembly members Nusrat Sultana and Khursheed Ahmed Junejo, and syndicate member Engineer MA Jabbar were special guests.

Engineer Jabbar, in his commencement address, highlighted the transformation achieved by the university.

He urged the Sindh government to establish a liaison office for coordination jobs for engineering graduates in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects.
