Punjab Women Development Minister for Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din has stressed upon women MPs to accelerate the ongoing campaign for promoting public awareness in their respective areas about the measures taken by the government for the protection of women rights and ensuring implementation of laws for the protection of women rights.
Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din was addressing a meeting on controlling violence against women, transfer of inherited property and giving representation to women in local bodies in Punjab Assembly on Tuesday.
Women Development Secretary Irum Bukhari and women assembly members were present. Irum Bukhari gave a detailed briefing on the measures taken for the protection of women rights and implementation of women package.
The minister said the government had taken unprecedented measures for bringing women to mainstream of national development.
She said besides introducing new laws, some old laws had been abolished or amended due to which women were discharging their national and economic responsibilities with more confidence.
She said it is a collective responsibility of society to discourage negative attitudes and promote positive trends of equality and tolerance. Hameeda Waheed said new chapters highlighting the role of women in education, medicine, computer and other fields will be introduced in syllabus. She said the committee set up by the government to check honour killing of women is finalising its recommendations. She said the committee will prepare a draft with the consultation of Ulema of all schools of thought which will be sent to the government for approval. She said due to negative social attitudes, women are exploited in the name of religion which is condemnable.
