CNG prices deregulation lauded
By our correspondent
KARACHI: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) has lauded the decision of the government to deregulate prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) countrywide, terming it a great step, which will revive the Rs450 billion industry, a statement said on Tuesday.
The government had recently approved the deregulation of CNG prices for Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on the pattern of Punjab through the reenactment of an amendment of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) law, under which the regulator is required to notify CNG prices.
“It has ended the role of Ogra in determining prices, leaving pricing issue to the market forces following the suit of Punjab where the prices had already been deregulated,” Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, central chairman of APCNGA, said. He said the decision would pave the way for a healthy competition among the owners of CNG filling stations, which would benefit consumers and bring significant investment in the ailing sector.
