Shocking report
According to the Global Liveability Index, Karachi ranks among 10 worst cities to live in. The city is the country’s economic and industrial hub. However, its infrastructure and institutions are in a dire state. According to a World Bank report, the available water supply meets only 55 percent of the city’s needs. Four hundred and seventy five million gallons of sewerage water is released directly into the open sea without treatment. The infrastructure of the city’s public transport is in a terrible condition. Forty two percent of the residents of the city rely on public transports yet the number of public transport available can only assist 5 percent of these residents.
Bad governance is responsible for the plight of the city. The government should take steps to deal with these problems and make the city a better place to live in.
