Three labourers suffocate in factory fire

LAHORE

Three labourers were killed when a fire broke out in a fabric factory at Karim Park on Ravi Road on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Shahid, 21, Jehanzeb, 21, and Javed, 45. At least eight labourers were asleep in the factory when the fire broke out and huge flames engulfed the building. Five labourers managed to escape unhurt while three suffocated. The cause of the fire was stated to be a short-circuit. Firefighters extinguished it after hectic efforts.   

Man dies: A 38-year-old man, yet to be identified, expired in a hospital on Thursday, a few hours after he was found lying unconscious in the area of Sundar police.

Locals had spotted the man lying unconscious on a road and informed police. The man was removed to hospital where he expired. 

The body has been removed to morgue.

accidents: A total 632 road traffic accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which 10 lives were lost and 519 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts. However, some 211 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid by Emergency Medical Teams.

suspended: SP Mujahid paid surprise visit to entry and exit points of the city on Thursday and suspended three officials on charges of dereliction of duty.

The SP visited Thokar Niaz Baig, New Ravi and Babu Sabu pickets and suspended three officials, including ASI Liaqat and constables Babar and Farooq.
