Trade with Pakistan developing, says German envoy

German Unity Day celebrated 

Trade between Pakistan and Germany is on an upward trend. The German and Pakistani business communities are growing more closely together. 

These were comments of the German envoy to Pakistan Ina Lepel while speaking at a dinner reception held to celebrate the German Unity Day at her residence in Diplomatic Enclave, Islamabad.

The establishment of the German-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in May this year is just one visible sign of this trend. 

Ina Lepel emphasised the growing need for cooperation between the two countries especially in the area of renewable energies saying that it played an important role in our bilateral cooperation as well as in our commercial relations. On the education, science and technology sector, she said she was highly pleased to see the growing interest of young Pakistanis in higher studies in Germany and learning the German language.

She said she was very pleased to have witnessed some lively exchange of high level visits during her past 12 months in Pakistan. The most prominent of which according to her was the visit of the Speaker of National Assembly to Germany in July which showed the parliament to parliament relations growing as well.

Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid was the chief guest on the occasion. He lauded the efforts of the German ambassador in working hard to further strengthen the relations between the two countries and thanked the German government in providing support to Pakistan in many areas, including renewable energy. He said German-Pakistan relations were historic and Germany was the largest trade partner of Pakistan. The event was attended by a very large number of diplomats, government officials, philanthropists, journalists, politicians and friends of Germany.
