PESHAWAR: The district administration has launched a concerted effort to resolve the 35-year-old Regi Model Town dispute, with plans to hold two to three jirgas weekly and involve empowered representatives from the Kukikhel tribe to ensure a lasting settlement.

The initiative, spearheaded by Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud, is aimed at bringing decades-long grievances to a conclusive resolution and providing justice to affected residents.

A meeting chaired by Riaz Mahsud, attended by the Deputy Commissioners of Peshawar and Khyber, the Director General of the Peshawar Development Authority, and senior Kukikhel tribe elders, sought nominations for a representative and fully empowered Kukikhel jirga, emphasizing sustained efforts to resolve the dispute through dialogue and collaboration. Riaz Mahsud said the current period provides the best opportunity to end the longstanding impasse and address the concerns of the affected communities. He appealed to all stakeholders for full cooperation to achieve a fair and durable solution. The Kukikhel elders assured the government of their complete support in the process.

The administration’s strategy of regular jirgas and direct engagement with tribal representatives underscores a proactive approach to resolving one of the region’s longest-standing land disputes while ensuring timely redress for all parties involved.
