Work on Katchery Chowk project starts on Monday

Rawalpindi: Work on the Katchery Chowk remodeling project will begin from Monday (November 3) while the chowk will be completely closed for all kinds of traffic from tomorrow (Sunday) and to facilitate the motorists an alternative traffic plan has been issued.

Under the proposed project, 3 flyovers and 3 underpasses will be built at Katchery Chowk, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam said during a media briefing.

He claimed that the target of completing the remodeling project has been set to be 8 to 10 months. After the completion of the project, Peshawar Road will become signal-free up to Chungi No. 26.

The official added that more than 200,000 vehicles pass through Katchery Chowk on a daily basis, however, alternative routes and plans have been issued for public convenience.

Since Katchery Chowk is the center point project of the city and a big challenge, traffic management is not possible without the cooperation of the public.

Panaflex displays on alternative routes have been almost completed. The completion of this project will significantly improve the traffic flow, he said.

Executive Engineer Punjab Highway Authority Rana Qamar Ali said that Rs1.5 billion have been paid for the acquired land surrounding the Katchehry Chowk.

Under the alternative traffic plan, Citizens going towards Old Airport Road, Rawat, Bahria Phase 1, High Court Road, Bostan Road, Gulrez, Kar Chowk will use Scheme Three Road.

Citizens going to New Airport will use Attock Oil Refinery Road from Jhelum Road Morgah Turn, while citizens can also use the route from Tulsa Road, Kalma Chowk, Bakra Mandi to Chowk No. 22.

Similarly, New Lalazar, Foundation University COD Chowk can be used to go to Saddar from Jhelum Road, while from No. 22, Peshawar Road, use Khattak Chowk and Qasim Market Chowk to go to New Airport.
