On this occasion, Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, DIG East, SSP Korangi, and other senior officers were also present.
Officials said Home Minister Lanjar said the establishment of the Awami Colony Police Station is an important step in the ongoing police reform initiatives of the Sindh government, aimed at providing better, transparent, and reliable police services to the people. He noted that this is the second police station inaugurated in Karachi, following the opening of the Sharea Faisal Police Station earlier.
He further said that the Sindh government is committed to ensuring access to justice for citizens with maximum ease and facilitation. The government is also actively working to modernize police stations and align them with the requirements of the modern era, based on the recommendations and proposals submitted by Sindh Police.
IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon remarked that with the home minister’s gracious presence, another police station has been inaugurated in Karachi. He stated that the establishment and operationalization of the Awami Colony Police Station was a long-standing public demand and the need of the hour for District Korangi.
He emphasized that the purpose behind setting up new police stations is to ensure that citizens approaching the police for various grievances and issues are provided with all facilities in a clean, safe, and accessible environment. Furthermore, efforts are being made to gradually improve the traditional police station culture.
He added that keeping in line with the vision of the Sindh government, various sessions, workshops, and seminars have been organized to promote positive reforms and modern policing practices.
The IGP said that deliberations are currently underway regarding the establishment of 40 additional police stations, which will be completed in the next phase.
Earlier, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho warmly welcomed the home minister and the IGP at the inauguration ceremony and expressed his gratitude for their presence.
He said that for effective and accessible policing, it is essential to establish police stations equipped with basic facilities and modern infrastructure. “Our aim is to ensure timely justice delivery, effective grievance redressal, and to promote people-friendly policing at all levels,” he added.
