Years of humanitarian, climate resilience work celebrated

Islamabad:Welthungerhilfe, a German non-governmental organisation committed to ending hunger and malnutrition worldwide, celebrated two decades of humanitarian and development partnership in Pakistan through a national event here on Monday.

Titled “Building a Resilient Pakistan: Two Decades of Climate Action and Preparedness,” the event gathered representatives from the government of Pakistan, development partners, civil society, academia and local implementing partners to reflect on WHH’s journey toward achieving Zero Hunger on a Healthy Planet.

WHH Secretary General Mathias Mogge highlighted the organisation’s longstanding contribution to humanitarian assistance, resilience building and climate adaptation benefiting millions across the country.

Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan Ina Lepel appreciated WHH’s impact, noting that her country has supported over €140 million in WHH-led programmes, reaching more than 16 million people nationwide.

She emphasised climate preparedness, localisation and women’s empowerment, reiterating Germany’s commitment to sustainable partnerships in Pakistan. National Disaster Management Authority Chairman Lt-General Inam Haider Malik discussed the National Early Operational Capability and anticipatory action initiatives aimed at predicting disasters before they strike, stressing the importance of coordination among agencies and partners.

UN Resident Coordinator Mohamed Yahya lauded the support of WHH and other partners during the 2025 devastating floods and its contribution to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. WHH Country Director Aisha Jamshed reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to localisation, innovation and inclusive growth in Pakistan.
