SIU arrests two ‘TTP members’ planning terrorist activity in city
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Karachi Police has foiled a major terrorist plot in the city after arresting two members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an encounter near the Thando Nalo Bridge in Malir City.
According to SIU SSP Amjad Sheikh, the arrested suspects were identified as Khalid and Adil who were planning a terrorist attack in the city. Acting on intelligence reports, SIU personnel launched a targeted operation, during which the suspects opened fire on police. In the ensuing exchange of fire, bullets struck a police mobile; however, no policemen were injured.
Police retaliated and managed to injure and arrest both the suspected terrorists. The SIU seized from their possession two pistols, ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been intended for use in the planned terrorist attack. The injured suspects were shifted to a hospital under custody, SSP Sheikh said, adding that police had expanded their probe to identify the suspects’ facilitators and potential targets.
