Rallies, protests, gatherings banned in Sindh for one month
The Sindh government has imposed Section 144 across the province, including Karachi, banning all kinds of rallies, demonstrations, sit-ins and public gatherings for one month.
According to a notification issued by the home department, assemblies of more than five persons are prohibited throughout the province in the interest of public peace and safety.
The notification issued on Sunday stated that the order has been enforced immediately on the recommendation of the provincial police chief, who has voiced concerns over the prevailing law and order situation across various police ranges.
Under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the government has exercised its powers to prohibit protests, sit-ins and assemblies of more than five persons for a period of one month with immediate effect.
In accordance with Section 195(i)(a) of the CrPC, station house officers of the relevant police stations have been authorised to register complaints in writing under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code against violators of this order.
The notification has been signed by Additional Chief Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Memon and circulated to key government departments for strict implementation.
