Inquiry launched over ‘controversial’ audio in Islamabad police
ISLAMABAD: An internal, top-level inquiry has been initiated within the Islamabad Police under the command of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Headquarters to identify an officer involved in uploading a ‘controversial’ audio file concerning the recent protest by the Awami Action Committee (AAC).
The investigation focuses on an audio clip that surfaced the other day, allegedly uploaded by a Superintendent of Police (SP) from an Islamabad zone. The officer was reportedly deployed at the National Press Club to manage the situation arising from the AAC Azad Kashmir protest.
The SP, who was contacted for comment, denied the context attributed to the audio. “I was giving directions to the group leaders who were deployed to tackle the mob, but it was something which was never said [in that context],” the SP told this correspondent.
The inquiry team has begun recording statements from relevant stakeholders to ascertain the full facts and reality surrounding the audio’s content and dissemination. The committee is mandated to submit its complete report within the next week.
