Gandapur slams ‘drama of cases’ against Imran

ISLAMABAD: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Thursday claimed that a “drama of cases” was being staged against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan under a pre-planned strategy.

Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) alongside PTI leaders and Imran Khan’s three sisters, Gandapur said the entire nation was looking towards the judiciary to uphold justice. He urged masses to “stand with justice”, asserting that new cases were being filed one after another while courts were unable to decide matters independently.

“We hope the Supreme Court will prove to be the last forum for justice. Two hundred and fifty million people are looking towards judges,” Gandapur said, adding that the system could not function under such pressure. “Imran Khan has shown tolerance, but the way the system is being run has paralysed all institutions.”

PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar echoed the chief minister’s concerns, saying the party’s struggle was for the rule of law and justice. He termed the Toshakhana-I case “totally fake and baseless”, pointing out that the convictions of Imran Khan and his spouse had been struck down within minutes.

PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja criticised what he described as deliberate delays in hearing appeals for suspension of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s sentences in the Al-Qadir case.

Salman Akram maintained that the judicial process was being misused for political purposes and warned that the case would now be “tried in the court of public opinion”.

In another development, lawyers for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan met him for nearly an hour at the Central Jail, Rawalpindi, following a court order.

The meeting was held after Advocates Faisal Malik, Hasnain Sunbal, and Aqeel Khan submitted an application to the Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi. The court approved the request and directed jail authorities to arrange the consultation. According to prison sources, the discussion centered on legal matters related to the GHQ attack case. The meeting provided an opportunity for the lawyers to confer with their client on the ongoing legal proceedings.
