LEAs arrest PTI activist Falak Javed in operation

ISLAMABAD: In a late-night operation, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) raided an apartment belonging to a prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, leading to the arrest of party worker Falak Javed. The arrest occurred at the upscale Islamabad flat of a top PTI lawyer.

Sources familiar with the matter stated that Falak Javed is accused of violating the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (Peca). According to these sources, she allegedly used social media for illegal activities, including making false allegations against government officials and state institutions.

A top police officer, when contacted, said Falak Javed was wanted to Lahore police. “A team of Lahore Police arrested her, not the Islamabad police,” the officer cleared.

“The arrest of the blogger is part of an ongoing crackdown against social media activists involved in uploading fake messages against the state and state institutions to damage them,” the sources maintained. They added that a long list of anti-state actors has been compiled by the authorities concerned.

The police have initiated an investigation to verify the facts of the case. Authorities emphasised that “the law is equal for everyone, and she will have to answer for her actions.” Following her arrest, Falak Javed was reportedly moved to an undisclosed location for further questioning.

Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court for the recovery of Falak Javed, who is the sister of social media activist Sanam Javed. The plea requests that Falak Javed be produced before the court and that details of the cases registered against her be provided.
