CTD says 8 cops injured in Dir encounter

PESHAWAR: After the southern districts more terrorists incidents are being reported in other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as eight policemen were wounded while a civilian and five terrorists were killed during an encounter in Upper Dir late Sunday night.

Terrorist incidents have happened in parts of Malakand and other divisions in the recent weeks. An official of the Counter Terrorism Department said a joint operation of CTD and local police was being conducted in Upper Dir after reports about the presence of terrorists. “Five terrorists were killed in the operation.

Eight police personnel were also injured while a civlian was martyred during the clash,” said an official. He added the encounter was going on till late night.

The official said the group of terrorists engaged in the encounter was involved in the attack on police car in the area a week ago and was planning a bigger attack which was foiled.Three policemen were martyred and few were wounded when terrorists attacked a police van in Upper Dir over a week back.
