Ambassador invites Pakistani businessmen to invest in Morocco
ISLAMABAD: Moroccan Ambassador Muhammad Kamoune has invited investors and business people from Pakistan to invest in significant development projects or set up their own businesses and benefit from the investment facilities his country is offering to business communities and access to foreign markets since Morocco has already signed free trade agreements (FTA) with the EU, Turkey, USA, the UAE, Egypt and others.
Addressing grand reception for 26th anniversary accession to the throne of King Muhammad VI of Morocco, he reminded that his country is engaged in numerous large-scale projects related to water management and desalination, food security, infrastructure as well as energy sovereignty with the objective to improve the living conditions of all citizens in all areas and regions. Federal minister Rana Tanveer Hussain was the chief guest on the occasion. Large number of dignitaries and guests including civil and military officials turned up in the reception both.
Ambassador Kamoune called for broadening bilateral cooperation with Morocco in textiles, agriculture, leather, pharmaceuticals, and information technology. The envoy recalled that the Throne Day celebration is an annual opportunity to renew the bonds of mutual allegiance between the people of Morocco and their Sovereign. The ambassador said that since the accession of King Mohammed VI to the Throne 26 years ago, the economy and social progress have been strengthened and a more competitive, diversified and open economy has been maintained despite the worsening international crises. “The industrial exports have more than doubled since 2014, especially those related to the automotive, aviation, renewable energy, food industries and tourism. They are key levers that underpin Morocco’s emerging economy in investment and job creation,” the ambassador said.
Ambassador Kamoune assured that his country attaches great importance to relations with Pakistan. The bilateral relations have traditionally been strong and cordial. They are characterized by shared interests and common history. “We value this relationship and see opportunities for enhanced cooperation in joint investments, defense, tourism and international forums to address together global challenges. He told the audience that the two brotherly countries are set to conduct a series of high-level meetings to discuss cooperation in several fields and explore avenues to increase imports and exports and identify industries where both business communities can collaborate closely.
Federal Minister Industries, Production and National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain commended Morocco’s remarkable strides in sustainable development, regional cooperation, and governance. He underlined the historical, cultural, and religious bonds between Pakistan and Morocco. “The diplomatic ties between the two brotherly countries, established in 1958, have evolved into a strong partnership based on mutual respect, solidarity, and shared values.” The federal minister appreciated Morocco’s consistent support to Pakistan on issues of importance at international forums and reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity. He stressed the need to expand bilateral cooperation in textiles, agriculture, leather, pharmaceuticals, and information technology. Rana Tanveer said that bilateral trade remains far below its potential and needs to be explored further.
Referring to Morocco’s global leadership in phosphate production and fertilizer manufacturing, the minister proposed deeper collaboration in agriculture, food security, and agri-tech innovation to boost Pakistan’s agricultural resilience and productivity. Rana Tanveer Hussain praised Morocco’s efforts in promoting interfaith harmony and cultural dialogue, calling it aligned with Pakistan’s vision of peace and coexistence.
The minister acknowledged Morocco’s achievements in renewable energy and stressed the value of cooperation on climate change adaptation and green technologies. Rana Tanveer Hussain expressed his appreciation for the role of the Embassy of Morocco in Islamabad, particularly under the leadership of Ambassador Mohammed Karmoune, in promoting bilateral relations. He said that Pakistan and Morocco share a brotherly relationship with vast untapped potential, and both nations must work together to expand cooperation for mutual benefit.
