CHITRAL: After the decision by the Supreme Court that disqualified the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from holding reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies, Chitral now has one Member National Assembly (MNA) and three Members Provincial Assembly (MPAs).

Ghazala Anjum, hailing from the Koghazi village in Lower Chitral, was nominated by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) for a women’s reserved seat in the National Assembly. Although she had initially taken the oath, she was later suspended. However, following the recent SC verdict, she has been reinstated.

In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly, three women have been nominated to represent Chitral. Khadija Bibi, nominated by the Awami National Party (ANP) as their first priority for a women’s reserved seat, currently holds the position of vice-president in the party’s provincial chapter. She had previously contested the local government elections for chairman of Drosh tehsil and secured third place.
