CHARSADDA: The district administration on Friday organised a mock rescue exercise in the Kabul River.

Officials said the activity was aimed at enhancing the readiness for potential emergency situations such as floods and river-related incidents.

The demonstration involved Rescue 1122 teams who performed diving operations, victim retrieval, emergency swimming, and on-site first aid. The exercise was closely monitored by Deputy Commissioner Qaiser Khan, Assistant Commissioner Riaz Ahmad, and District Emergency Officer Jawad Khan.

The drill showcased the swift response capabilities of emergency services and tested their coordination in handling rescue scenarios.

As part of the initiative, volunteer teams from 11 union councils located along the riverbank were equipped with free rescue kits. These kits, provided in collaboration with Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) and NIDA Pakistan included life jackets, first aid supplies, stretchers, wheelchairs, and loudspeakers for public announcements in emergencies.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Qaiser Khan said the objective of such exercises was to raise public awareness, assess emergency response efficiency, and ensure all departments are ready to act swiftly in times of crisis.

He maintained that reducing risks from natural disasters is only possible through preparedness and coordination.
