Jirga arranged in Kohat to ensure peaceful Muharram

KOHAT: A grand jirga of officials and community elders from across the Kohat Division reached a consensus on mutual cooperation for the peaceful observance of Muharram.

A jirga was convened at the Commissioner House in Kohat to ensure peace and promote religious harmony during the holy month of Muharram.The gathering was attended by Kohat Commissioner Muatasim Billah, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Abbas Majeed Marwat, District Police Officer Zahidullah, senior officials from district and regional administration, the Pakistan Army, and intelligence agencies.

Political representatives, members of the business community, and elders from both Sunni and Shia sects of Kohat, Kurram, Orakzai, and Hangu participated in the jirga.Addressing the jirga, RPO stated that security arrangements for Muharram had been finalized to maintain law and order.

He added that a large police force had been deployed at sensitive locations, and every possible precaution taken to deal promptly with any untoward incident.The official said that foolproof security measures had been taken for Muharram processions across the Kohat region, where around 10,000 personnel from the police and army will be on duty.

He explained that search operations were ongoing in sensitive areas throughout the division, several suspects had been detained and shifted to various police stations for interrogation.The RPO appealed to the people of Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, and Orakzai to cooperate with the police and security forces to ensure peace during Muharram.

The Kohat commissioner assured that the administration would perform its duties with a sense of responsibility, dedication, and vigilance.He emphasized that the administration was committed to achieving positive outcomes through public cooperation and inter-sectarian harmony.

The members of the national and provincial assemblies stressed the need to rise above differences and demonstrate unity as one nation.They noted that Muslim unity was the only effective response to both internal and external conspiracies.The scholars from Sunni and Shia communities appreciated the efforts of the administration and assured their continued cooperation.
