Sectarian harmony stressed
KOHAT: A meeting was convened on Wednesday by the police, district administration, and Pakistan Army to promote sectarian harmony during Muharram.The meeting was attended by representatives from the Shia and Sunni communities as well as members of the business fraternity.
According to Regional Police Officer (RPO) Kohat, Abbas Majeed Marwat, the high-level meeting was held at the Kohat Police Club to deliberate on inter-sectarian harmony and security matters ahead of Muharram, following recent acts of terrorism in Kohat division.
The session was attended by RPO Kohat Abbas Majeed Marwat, Kohat Commissioner Muatassim Billah Shah, District Police Officer Zahidullah Khan, officers from the security forces, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Akram, and elders from the Shia and Sunni sects and traders’ representatives from Kohat, Hangu, Orakzai, and Kurram districts.
The primary aim of the meeting was to devise a comprehensive strategy to ensure peace and security during religious gatherings, processions, and other activities during Muharram. Participants unanimously pledged their full cooperation with the district administration to foster peace and prevent any potential untoward incidents.
Speaking on the occasion, RPO Kohat Abbas Majeed emphasized the need to observe Muharram with the spirit of Muslim unity.“We must move forward keeping in view the collective interest of the Ummah, setting aside our differences to build a strong and united society,” he said.
He urged all parties to resolve any disputes or misunderstandings through dialogue. “While the police will provide full security, promoting social harmony is equally important,” he added.The RPO assured that the district administration would make every effort to maintain law and order during Muharram.
He stated that special security arrangements would be made along all routes of processions and gatherings, and stern action would be taken against anyone spreading sectarian hatred or rumors.
All participants agreed on a joint declaration reaffirming their commitment to observe Muharram peacefully and pledged to play an active role in promoting religious harmony and brotherhood.
