Arrogant as ever
Why should the government talk to the beleaguered PTI when the economy is relatively strong and the security leadership’s image, which the PTI social-media warriors tried to tarnish, has improved manifold after their brilliant performance against the Indian incursion. The current ruling setup’s position has been largely consolidated due to their sage handling of escalation with India. Relationships with Afghanistan are also improving. Given this context, any willingness by the government for talks with the PTI could stem from a desire for wider national political stability.
However, the PTI chief has reportedly refused talks with the government. It is laughable how the PTI chief accuses the security forces of political interference and criticises them for it, but seems willing only to talk to them. Is he not encouraging the same interference that he also claims to disapprove of? The beleaguered rank-and-file of the PTI should rethink their dedication to their leader, who seems to have lost all rational power and, despite suffering a long period in jail, remains as arrogant as ever.
