KARACHI: Commissioner of the Medium Taxpayer Office (MTO) Aftab Imam has said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is adopting modern, technology-driven systems to make Pakistan’s tax regime more automated, transparent and user-friendly.

Speaking at a PRAL software awareness session hosted by the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Imam said that invoicing, e-filing and payments of sales and income taxes are being digitised through the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) software to facilitate the business community and broaden the taxpayer base.

“The FBR aims not only to support existing taxpayers but also to bring new ones into the fold,” he said. He added that similar training sessions would continue in the future to raise awareness and improve taxpayer compliance, thereby helping to expand the national tax net.

During the session, other FBR officials delivered a detailed presentation on the use of the PRAL system, including invoice generation, return filing and other technical processes. Attendees engaged actively, asking questions related to the system and highlighting practical challenges, while also calling for broader reforms to address systemic obstacles in the tax regime.
