CHARSADDA: The authorities have decided to launch a crackdown against illegal petrol pumps operating across the district.
These unauthorised fuel stations not only violate consumer rights but also pose serious safety hazards due to the lack of proper precautionary measures. According to officials from the Department of Industries and Consumer Protection, over 300 illegal petrol pumps have already been issued notices.
“The owners have been given a 20-day deadline to fulfill all legal requirements and regularise their operations. Failure to comply within the given period will result in the sealing of the petrol pumps and legal action against the owners,” said an official.
Assistant Director of Industries, Waqar Khan, stated that a significant number of petrol pumps in the district were operating without proper licenses and safety protocols. “These pumps are a danger to both consumers and surrounding communities due to the absence of fire safety and emergency systems,” he added.
He further warned that strict action would be taken after the 20-day grace period, including sealing of non-compliant fuel stations and prosecution of their owners under relevant laws. Meanwhile, the district chairman of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association, Janzaib Khan, welcomed the move.
