BUREWALA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a case against 11 police personnel, including the former SHO of Model Town police station, Burewala, for allegedly killing a man in a fake police encounter.

On April 6, 2023, shortly after a robbery incident at Gulshan Raza Town, SHO Nasir Mehmood’s team detained two individuals - Asif Kamboh and Shaban Jutt, residents of 525/EB. The police claimed that the suspects opened fire when officers attempted to stop them, but were eventually subdued. Illegal weapons were reportedly recovered, and separate cases were filed against them for attacking police and possessing illegal arms.

During interrogation, Asif Kamboh was nominated in over eight robbery cases, many of which previously listed suspects as “unknown.” On April 19, the police advanced their investigation by registering another incident, claiming that while transporting Asif Kamboh and Shaban Jutt for recovery, their vehicle was attacked near Chak 521/EB by three armed assailants - allegedly accomplices of the detainees.

According to Inspector Nasir Mehmood, Asif Kamboh was killed in the crossfire, while Shaban Jutt sustained severe injuries, and the attackers escaped. A police encounter case was registered at Sadr police station Burewala.

Asif Kamboh’s widow, Khalida Parveen, resident of Chak 525/EB, challenged the encounter as fake and approached the FIA, providing evidence and initiating legal proceedings. Following multiple inquiries, the FIA registered a case on her behalf against former SHO Model Town Inspector Nasir Mehmood, Sub-Inspectors Mazhar Fareed and Atif, Constables Ahsan Ameen, Naveed Irfan, Iqbal, Saifullah, Abdul Waheed, Sarwar, and driver Constables Majid Rasheed and Imran, under charges of murder and other serious offences.
