The World Health Organisation (WHO) representative on polio eradication has confirmed to local media that a three-year-old girl, Ajwa, was latest victim of polio. Belonging to Garah Essa Khan Union Council in Daraban tehsil, Ajwa was admitted to the Children Ward of District Headquarters Hospital Dera Ismail Khan last week.
She expired during the course of pathological investigation. During the campaign, 111 mobile teams, 29 fixed teams, 15 transit teams and 375 community health workers will be administering anti-polio drops to 129,539 children, under the supervision and security provided by political agents, commissioner and law-enforcing agencies.
In 2016, the average percentage of target children covered during low transmission season-5 anti-polio campaigns in all over Fata has been maintained around 99 percent, with rate of refusal below 1 percent and polio cases zero, said an official communiqué.
