Alleged blasphemer’s bail plea rejected
PESHAWAR: A local court on Saturday dismissed the bail plea of the accused in a blasphemy case and sent him to prison.
District and Sessions Judge Inamullah Wazir rejected the bail application of the accused, Abdul Majid, in a blasphemy case and ordered that the accused be kept in prison.
During the hearing of the bail plea, the court was informed that the accused had allegedly desecrated the Holy Quran on social media and shared blasphemous contents on various social media apps. One Amanullah, a resident of Hayatabad, had lodged a written complaint with the Cybercrime Wing the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against the accused. The FIA Cybercrime Wing then registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Act, Section 295-A, and other relevant provisions.
The accused was taken into custody, who later approached the court to seek bail. After hearing arguments and finding substantial evidence against the accused, the court dismissed the bail plea and ordered that he should be kept in jail.
