Jirga urges govt to improve law & order in Khyber
BARA: Expressing concern over growing lawlessness, tribal elders here on Sunday asked the government to take steps to improve law and order in Khyber tribal district.They were speaking at a jirga, which was organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber district chapter.
The jirga discussed the security situation and suggested measures to bring peace to Bara and Tirah valley in Khyber district.The JI Khyber office-bearers including Shah Faisal Afridi, Khan Wali, Sultan Akbar, Muhammad Khan, Faqeer Afridi and others participated in the jirga.
The tribal elders from various tribes, political leaders, traders and social activists attended the jirga. The jirga mainly focused on recent security incidents in Bara and the Maidan area in Tirah.
The jirga members also expressed concern over the rising incidents of targeted killings and extortion in the Khyber district. They said the people were feeling unsafe due to rising lawlessness.Speaking on the occasion, Shah Faisal said that no adequate financial assistance was provided to those who suffered losses.
He maintained that acts of terrorism had increased in Khyber, adding that the lawlessness had compounded the problems of the locals.Another speaker Murad Saqi also expressed concern over the prevailing security situation and demanded the government to take steps to improve law and order. He said it was the responsibility of the government to ensure the protection to the life and property of the people. He also said that acts of target killings and extortion had recorded a steep increase in recent weeks.
Malik Muhammad Hussain also expressed similar thoughts and urged the government to honour its pledges made with the people. He asked the government to compensate the people for the losses.He said that the homes and properties of the local people were damaged during acts of subversion.
