Minister promises to solve ICU financial problems

PESHAWAR: Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi said on Wednesday the provincial government was striving to overcome the financial problems of the historic Islamia College University (ICU) and various plans and proposals were being considered for that.

He made the statement during his visit to the institution. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ali Mohammad Yousafzai, Senior Alumni President Muhammad Zaman Muhammadzai, General Secretary Fayyaz Khan, Teaching Association President Fazal Wahid, Registrar Arbab Dawood and Administrative Officer Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Kakakhel were present on the occasion.

The minister said the provision of quality education in higher educational institutions was the top priority of the provincial government and all possible steps were being taken at the government level to solve the financial problems faced by the universities.

The minister was informed about the properties of the Islamia College located in Khyber Bazar, Charsadda and Harichand, which had been rented out at throwaway prices. It was pledged that the best possible utilization of the university’s properties would be made so that the economic problems of Islamia College could be overcome.

The minister lauded the financial discipline of Islamia College and was satisfied with the financial condition of the institution.He appreciated the efforts of the vice-chancellor for solving the academic problems of the students of the institution and providing them with other facilities.The minister also planted a sapling in the university .
