PPP names candidates for Senate polls

PPP has nominated all new faces from Sindh except Quratul Ain Marri, who is sister Shazia Marri

ISLAMABAD: The PPP Parliamentarians announced its candidates for the upcoming Senate elections after approval by the party leadership.

According to a party announcement on Friday, the PPP candidates have been nominated from Sindh on general seats are Kazim Shah, Ashraf Jatoi, Masroor Ahsan, Nadeem Bhutto, Sarfaraz Rajar and Dost Ali Jessar, while on technocrats seat Barrister Zameer Ghumro and Sarmad Ali, and on women seat Quratul Ain Marri and Rubina Qaimkhani, and non-Muslims Poonjo Bheel.

The party has nominate all new faces from Sindh except Quratul Ain Marri, who is sister of PPP’s Information Secretary Shazia Marri, and retired on 2024.

From Balochistan on general seats Aimal Wali Khan (Joint candidate of PPP & ANP), Jan Mohammad Buledi (Joint candidate of PPP and National Party), Mir Changaiz Khan Jamali and Sardar Umer Gorgaij while on Technocrat seat Bilal Mandokhel, and on two women seats Ishrat Brohi and Kiran Baloch.

From Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa the PPP has nominated Rubina Khalid, who retired as a senator on March 11, 2024.

From Punjab, the aprty nominated Faiza Ahmed Malik.

From Islamabad, it nominated Rana Mehmoodul Hasan, who hails from Multan and joined the PPP before February 8 election and contested the election of National Assembly from Multan but lost. In the list, former Senate chairman Mian Raza Rabbani was ignored this time and was not awarded party ticker for another term.

Meanwhile, the PPP announced its covering candidates. The covering candidate from Sindh on general seats will be Aajiz Dhamrah, Ghanwar Isran and Javaid Nayab Leghari, while on women seat Musarat Niazi, on technocrat Dr Karim Khawaja, and on minority Surendar Valasai.

Meanwhile in Quetta, as many as 173 nomination papers have been issued to the candidates for Balochistan’s 11 vacant seats in the Senate.

A total of 78 candidates have received nomination papers, however, no candidate has submitted nomination papers so far, ECP Balochistan chapter spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the nomination papers of former finance minister Ishaq Dar were submitted on Friday to contest the technocrat seat reserved for Islamabad. PMLN leaders Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Hanif Abbasi submitted nomination papers for Dar as proposers.
