Imran Khan is rather facing a peculiar situation as the infighting in his key party leaders from Punjab is intensifying with every passing day. It appears the party infighting will hamper momentum against the government over investigation of Panama leaks.

The grouping in the party which forced postponement of the intra-party elections last month seems to be unending unless a drastic action is taken against one or the other group of the party, an insider said. Khan who had left the dinner seeing the tempers of his two party leaders high on Wednesday reprimanded the two saying that it was time to get united and not infighting.

First reflection of this nerve breaking situation arose on Wednesday when the PTI chairman held an informal meeting with his close aides including Jahangir Tareen, Naeemul Haq etc. when the meeting failed to formulate its strategy on how to go about after the withdrawal of PM Sharif’s name from Panama papers.

Instead the meeting confined itself to deciding on filing petitions against Capt Safdar by his rival contestant in general elections Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed, two references against ministry of information and Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif for unleashing propaganda using official resources.

Tuesday’s incident in which two Punjab leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar exchanged barbs has put PTI chairman’s Lahore rally on May 1 in jeopardy as the reports of such divisions may have shaken the nerves of party workers and enthusiasts.
