Mohsin Dawar injured in firing on protesters

MIRANSHAH: Two people were killed and six others, including National Democratic Movement (NDM) leader Mohsin Dawar, sustained injuries in a firing incident when his party workers were staging a protest against the election results in North Waziristan.

The workers of NDM were protesting against the election results when the firing incident took place. Reports said that two persons were killed while the former MNA among six others was injured.

Mohsin Dawar, who was running for the National Assembly constituency NA-40, was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Miranshah and then was referred to a hospital in Peshawar. However, his condition was stated to be out of danger.

Two of the injured were said to be in critical condition. Local sources and eyewitnesses said that the workers of NDM, led by Mohsin Dawar, were protesting against the inordinate delay in the issuance of election results and were marching towards the office of returning officer in the cantonment in Miranshah.

The workers of NDM alleged that police opened fire on the protesters to stop them from going towards the office of returning officer.

The two slain persons were identified as Sher Ayub Wazir and Wahab Khan Dawar belonging to Darpakhel area in North Waziristan.

The incident heightened tensions in North Waziristan where reports said that many roads were blocked in protest.
