PTI leader Yousuf Ayub arrested in Haripur
HARIPUR: The police on Friday evening arrested the former provincial minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Yousuf Ayub Khan and shifted him to an undisclosed location, party sources confirmed here.
The sources said that he was on the way to Haripur city from Khanpur side after addressing a public meeting of his brother Arshad Ayub Khan, PTI’s candidate for PK-47 Haripur-II, when a police party stopped him near Doeyan Khushki village on Khanpur Road and arrested him. He was shifted to an undisclosed location, the party sources said.
Police sources said that he was picked up under maintenance of public order for allegedly delivering provocative speeches against the government and institutions.
The sources said that Yousuf Ayub, famous among his supporters as Baba-e-Baldiyat, was on bail from the local court in two cases registered against him in City and Sera-e-Saleh Police Station in connection with May 9 protests.
Yousuf Ayub Khan is the elder brother of PTI’s candidates for PK-46 Haripur-I and 47 Haripur II and former provincial ministers Akbar Ayub and Arshad Ayub and first cousin of PTI’s general secretary and former federal minister and PTI’s nominee for NA 18 Haripur, Omar Ayub Khan.
He has been running the election campaign of his brothers and cousin since the announcement of the election schedule for the February 8 run off.
