In other countries around the world, people welcome the new year in a decent and proper way, while we turn the celebrations into a curse for our own citizens. Many people in Pakistan tend to celebrate New Year’s Eve with celebratory or aerial firing at night, endangering the lives and property of their fellow citizens and, in some cases, causing injuries and even deaths. Aside from recklessly endangering the lives of their fellow citizens, those engaging in such illegal celebrations show an utter lack of consideration, not stopping to think that they might be disturbing those not joining in the revelries, including the sick, the elderly, and young children.

This trend of aerial firing is indicative of the lack of rule of law in the country. The New Year festivities should not come at the cost of public distress and potential harm. It is crucial for the authorities to implement measures to discourage the use of weapons during celebrations, safeguarding the community and fostering a more responsible and secure environment for all.
