PESHAWAR: The current year was marked as one of the worst periods for the police force in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as 185 policemen were martyred and over 400 wounded in terrorist attacks.
Throughout the year, attacks on police continued across various parts of the province.
According to an official report, over 300 terrorists were killed, 917 were apprehended and 44 with head money were among those arrested.
Also, the year saw 195,000 reported crimes, 74,106 suspects detained in 14,836 search operations and recovery of 30,351 kilograms of narcotics.
There were over 250 attacks carried out on the police force in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa till the end of November, with the highest number of attacks reported again in Dera Ismail Khan district.
Till November, there were over 250 attacks on the police force, with Dera Ismail Khan district experiencing the highest number, followed by Bannu and Peshawar divisions.
As many as 46 attacks on police were carried out in DIK during the period, 20 attacks in Tank and two in South Waziristan of the same DIK division, it said.
In the Peshawar division, the provincial capital witnessed 52 terror incidents, and Khyber district had 72. The police faced 37 attacks in Peshawar and 31 in Khyber district.
Over 100 policemen were martyred in Peshawar district, with 86 in a single suicide attack at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines mosque in January. A total of 74 policemen lost their lives in other districts across the province in 2023.
