LAHORE: First Lady Mrs Samina Arif Alvi has said that the awareness campaign to prevent breast cancer is going on successfully.
‘The more awareness about breast cancer is spread in the society, the more women will be able to save themselves from this dangerous disease,’ she said while speaking as special guest of honour at the Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar held here at Governor's House Thursday.
Provincial Health Minister Prof Dr Javed Akram was the guest of honour, while Aisha Baligh-ur-Rahman, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Principal Prof Dr Sardar Zafar Al Farid, Punjab Institute of Cardiology Medical Superintendent Dr Mohsin Ali Shah, Dr Maryam Malik from the World Health Organisation and women participated.
The awareness seminar was organised in collaboration with the University of Lahore and the World Health Organisation. The health minister Prof Dr Javed Akram while addressing the participants of the awareness seminar said that unfortunately one out of every nine women suffered from breast cancer in Pakistan. Breast cancer can be cured through early diagnosis. A mother who breastfeeds her baby can never get breast cancer. Dr Javed Akram said that awareness about breast cancer should be spread and seminars should be organised in our educational institutions. ‘I have seen Samina Arif Alvi always serving the suffering humanity.
It is the responsibility of everyone sitting here to spread awareness about breast cancer among their circle of friends. For the health of the child, every mother should breastfeed for two years.’
Breastfeeding should not be a stigma. Pakistan's first lady Samina Arif Alvi is leading the campaign to prevent breast cancer.
