NAB may probe Benazir varsity appointments
KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has authorized complain verification against the management of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari, Karachi, for alleged illegal appointments of 90 employees in the University.
According to the official statement of NAB the decision of probe of the said matter was made in Executive Board meeting of the Authority. Sources close to NAB told this correspondent on the condition of anonymity that the Authority has received many complaints regarding the alleged illegal appointments and other matters of corruption in Lyari University.
According to the documentary evidences available with ‘The News’, close relatives of the senior faculty members were appointed as officers and teachers. Vice Chancellor of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari, Karachi, Professor Akhtar Baloch said that NAB is not inquiring any matter and only complain verification is authorized. He said no appointments were made in the University and only cooperative teachers and other staff were hired on contract basis and this hiring could not be termed as appointments. Replying to a question Mr Baloch said that no relative of any senior faculty member was appointed and all the accusations of corruption and illegal appointments are false.
