25 couples tie the knot

Minhajul Quran Welfare Society, an affiliated body of Pakistan Awami Tehrik,  on Sunday, organised a ceremony where 25 deserving couples tied the knot in a park outside the PAT secretariat in Model Town.

Renowned human rights activist and social worker Ansar Burney was the chief guest on the occasion while other guests included Mrs Ansar Burney, noted jurist SM Zafar, Mrs SM Zafar, PTI MPA Sadia Suhail Rana, dress designer BG and others.

Ansar Burney praised Minhaj welfare society for giving the message of love, peace and religious harmony through its patronised mass weddings in which Christian and Hindu couples were also included. He said this message portrays Pakistani society as a place where all citizens are given love and respect irrespective of their religion, creed and race.

He also expressed satisfaction over the capture of RAW agent involved in subversion and terrorism in the country, saying it had proved that Pakistan was not a terrorist country but victim of terrorism.

Nikah of Muslim couples were performed by Mufti Abdul Qayyum Hazarvi, Allama Rafiq Randhawa and others. While the religious rites of Christian couples were performed by Father James Channan and Rev Samual Nawab, while that of Hindu couples were performed by Amarnath Randhawa, Pandit Bhagat Lal and Dr Manohar Chand.

All the expenditures of the weddings were borne by Minhaj welfare society and the couples were also given dowry amounting to Rs150,000 each. 

Reception: Noted political figure from Lahore, Chaudhry Akram, hosted a reception for former governor and senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, Chaudhry Sarwar.

Politicians including Akhter Rasool, Naveed Chaudhry and others also attended the reception. Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Akram, also the former President of PML-Q Lahore, said that it was a positive sign that people from different political parties had attended the reception and exchanged views to steer the country out of the current situation.
