Jirga asked to solve Bajaur-Mohmand boundary dispute

PESHAWAR: A senior official on Monday asked the head of the jriga constituted for resolving the Bajaur-Mohmand boundary dispute to launch practical work to settle the issue once and for all.Chairing a meeting of the committee, Peshawar Commissioner Muhammad Zubair said that boundary and land disputes in the merged districts should be resolved on a priority basis to end hatred and tension among the people.

Head of the Khyber Jirga and former lawmaker Al-Haj Shahjee Gul Afridi, jirga members, commissioner Malakand, deputy commissioner Mohmand and others attended the meeting, said a press release.Commissioner Muhammad Zubair asked the committee head and members to obtain surety bonds from both the parties, listen to the arguments and visit the site and collect proof so the boundary dispute could be resolved as per the evidence.

He said that resolution of land and boundary disputes was the need of the hour for which cognizant steps were being taken.The participants agreed to settle the Bajaur-Mohmand boundary dispute through negotiation and peaceful means.It may be mentioned that several sessions had been held of the 30-member Khyber Jirga headed by former lawmaker Al-Haj Shahjee Gul to solve the boundary dispute between the Bajaur and Mohmand tribal districts.The Khyber Jirga had said that no discrimination would be meted out to anyone and the longstanding issue of boundary demarcation would be settled amicably between the people of the two districts.
