‘Doctors need positive approach’
LAHORE
University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice-Chancellor Gen (Retd) Muhammad Aslam has said young doctors will have to bring positive change in their approach to cope with the challenges of modern age. They should focus on medical research to save masses from diseases and establish a healthy society.
He said Prof Khalid Mahmood, Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital, had played a pivotal role to earn good name for the organisation.
He expressed these views while addressing the participants of 6th Annual Scientific Symposium 2016 held at Post Graduate Medical Institute on Wednesday.
With the topic "Excellence in patients care through perseverance, the symposium was attended by ex- principals of PGMI, faculty members and a large number of Ameer- ud-Din Medical College students. The participants also watched exhibition of books and posters on various medical subjects and issues.
Gen (Retd) Muhammad Aslam said in his address that doctors and paramedics could serve the humanity at the best level. He also said he was proud of students of the PGMI who were serving the country and abroad as well.
Prof. Khalid Mahmood said in his address that it was the research in the field of medical science which could bring us at par with international standard for the patient's care. He said that on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif a modern research lab was being constructed at the PGMI at a cost of Rs. 30 crore.
He also told the media that the PGMI was spending Rs. one crore annually only on research which reflected our focus on this department. He added the chief minister had promised to release more funds for this purpose.
He said the PGMI had been holding annual scientific symposium every year and it had set a good precedent over the years.
This event provides opportunities to doctors to get knowledge about the mutual experiences and also about new trends in medical science, he added.
