With right kind of accessories and beautiful carpets, one can decorate one’s home in a wonderful manner. You! takes a look...

The manner in which you design the interiors of your home is a significant factor in making your home more inviting and relaxing. The home should be a place to show off your personality, and the furniture is one of the easiest ways to accomplish this. The furniture is meant to be functional but beautiful at the same time. Having chic furniture and right kind of accessories including fine carpets can make all the difference to your home.

And we all agree that designer furniture gives your home a touch of luxury and timeless beauty. Home decor has become an ‘it’ industry. All over the world there are home decor outlets offering contemporary home furnishings and paraphernalia. In Pakistan too there are a number of elegant home decor stores like Habitt, Chen One, Khaadi Home, Object, Interwood, Renaissance - selling modern furniture and lovely pieces of object d’art for the ones with fine taste and good aesthetic sense. The latest in the list is ‘Abbas Home’.

Recently, Pakistan’s premium heritage brand Abbas Carpets celebrated 40 years of weaving bespoke masterpieces, and have introduced their new brand, ‘Abbas’ Home at their design studio in Lahore.

A multi-generational family led brand spanning four decades, Abbas Carpets embodies the rich heritage of traditional and contemporary worlds, crafting timeless works of art with its artisans embodying a generational legacy of the craft of weaving. Founded in the 1970s, the company believes in a sense of contemporary, timeless luxury that can withstand the ages. Their intricate designs are a merge of classical and modern, all the while maintaining great practicality. From majestic hues to vibrant accents to elaborate patterns and fusions of colour, Abbas Carpets has taken the contemporary and fused it elegantly with today’s consideration of modern palettes of home decor.

Now, bringing their passion and meticulous attention to quality to a new dimension, Creative Director Haider Abbas Mirza and Marketing Director Ahmad Abbas Mirza have introduced Abbas Home, offering contemporary home decor products including sofas, armchairs, coffee tables, side tables, consoles, dining tables, ottomans, chandeliers, lamps, mirrors, cushions and home accessories.

“Abbas Carpets has essentially been around for four decades - primarily as an export house; manufacturing and exporting our products mostly to retailers and wholesalers to the United States. Having collaborated with some of the most prestigious retailers in the industry for 40 years running provides a competitive edge - we stay ahead of the design curve, but also are able to introduce new trends - most of which, especially for the local retail market, are ahead of their time. Our longstanding relationships with companies such as ABC Carpet & Home, Bloomingdale’s and The Rug Company are a testament to our meticulous and seamless business practices,” explains, Creative Director Haider Abbas Mirza.

“We firmly believe that the carpet pretty much dictates the entire theme of a room. Incorporating a modern, vibrant rug could breathe new life into any given space, whereas a muted, sophisticated statement could have as profound an impact, albeit a subtle one. Most of our collections are inspired by either centuries-old textile concepts that have not only been revived, but re-imagined on a whole - or perennial artistic movements that have shaped the course of history,” shares Haider.

It is interesting to note that some of the world’s leading international celebrities have embellished their homes with Abbas Carpets such as Hollywood Actor Jude Law, Grammy Award Winning Artist Taylor Swift, Iconic Musician and Nobel Prize Winner Bob Dylan, Media Mogul Rupert Murdoch, American Fashion Designer Betsey Johnson, Former World Boxing Champion Amir Khan and Bollywood and Pakistani Film Personalities Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan to name a few. “Recently, one of our products, an exquisite carpet, was also featured in season 3, episode 6 of the famous Netflix & Marvel show Daredevil,” tells Haider.

One wonders what made them interested in home designing. To this end, marketing director, Ahmed Abbas Mirza says, “The home decor market has been going through a constant evolution and since we have been on the cutting-edge wave of carpet design, we wanted to bring the same sensibility to our home design section, so we decided to come up with a range of quality home furnishings for our clients.”

“Furniture items can completely make or break the complete look of the house. By selecting the right furniture, you can relax at home and leave the outside world at the door. At our home store, you find a combination of the traditional, rustic, and modern furniture. As such the customers have the widest choice of selection. Well I personally like rustic/chic contemporary furniture. My own home is a combination of rustic and modern. Some rooms are done traditional,” elucidates Ahmed.

So, what are the factors one keeps in mind when decorating one’s home? “There are numerous factors to consider when decorating your home. For instance one needs to keep in mind latest furniture trends while decorating one’s home. Furniture trends this year look to embolden us with bright colours and mirrored pieces while also providing a sense of comfort and security with traditional styles and reclaimed hardwoods mixed with metals. Go with your lifestyle. Don’t be afraid to mix it up,” suggests Ahmed.

Haider also shares some interesting tips related to carpets, “If possible, choose your carpet before deciding upon paint, upholstery and curtains. The colours in your carpet can provide inspiration for the colour scheme of an entire room. Carpet is an investment, and a quality carpet will live up to your expectations for many years. A cheap buy is not necessarily a bargain.”

As far their future endeavours are concerned they are thinking of opening their out lets in Karachi and Islamabad. “We’re looking to branch out (eventually) into Karachi & Islamabad. However, given that we’ve literally JUST launched our space, I don’t see that happening; not for a year or two at the very least,” concludes Haider.
