In the Lexicography section, the terms looked weird at first, but when I made up my mind to read it anyway....

Dear Eddie, Assalamu Alaikum!

I’ve just gone through Us (June 5, 2020) and thought of writing to you right away. The way Sana Afridi shared the lessons learnt from her own experiences made “Baking 101” an interesting read. Tips were simple and practical. Equally loved the recipes of ‘Keri ka Sherbet’ and ‘Chicken and Egg Sandwiches’.

In the Lexicography section, the terms looked weird at first, but when I made up my mind to read it anyway, the explanations were very relatable! I liked Ecstatic Shock, Jouska, Onism, Rubatosis, The Bends.

Ed, in the previous issue of Us, you encouraged all youngsters (adults too, na?) to write for the magazine. Apparently, all of us have got much time while staying at home, but the irony is we feel less motivated, least inspired … don’t know why. No doubt, we are reading a lot as it’s kind of passive activity, but when it comes to writing, all energy seems to disappear and we feel like doing nothing else except eating or sleeping.

Hackshool Project is one of the favourite episodic stories I’ve ever read in local English magazines. I love the interaction of the three siblings, their parents and the general atmosphere of their household.

Thanks for a very good feedback, Hina. Us is a magazine for the youth basically, and adults also fall in this category! So yes, you are most welcome to write. We would also like to point out that writers belonging to almost all age groups have been – and continue to be – a part of Us!

Dear Editor,

In the issue of June 5, I loved the Quiz Whiz, and I must add that it was aptly titled ‘For the love of The Hunger Games’! Besides, it was very timely with the release of the new Hunger Games book. (Tooba, please add the book or movie you told me about, please ) Ed, those pictures of cupcakes were so tempting, in the cover story ‘Baking 101’ by Sana Afridi! They made me forget all about my resolution to shun anything fattening; so, I had a go at baking cupcakes myself. With so much time at hand, baking is a wonderful activity to keep anyone with the love for trying new recipes busy. Keep up the good work!

Hey Rihab, it’s all right to indulge yourself, but please burn what you eat! :)

Reflection

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr (R.A)

The Prophet (S.A.W) said, “Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up.

1. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays.

2. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie.

3. Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous.

4. Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner.”
