For the sake of peace

After finishing my homework, I went to my father who was in the lounge watching a news channel. I sat with him and waited for the right moment to request the custody of the remote, so I could switch to my favourite channel. In the meantime horrible scenes of kids being killed in Syria, Kashmir and in cross border firings between India and Pakistan flashed on the screen. I was horrified by what I saw, so I decided to share my thoughts with you, the readers.

We all know that people of India and Pakistan are almost alike in many ways. Then, why do our governments talk in terms of how many tanks, fighter planes or missiles they have instead of talking about the common grounds that we share? Don’t people in power understand that nobody wins these wars and they only bring destruction and suffering?

Wars only leave widows and orphans. Wars make mothers lose their sons. It is civilians and children who are killed in Kashmir, Syria, Afghanistan, etc. Death of loved ones destroy the beautiful castles of children’s dreams and their beautiful future is destroyed just like the fighter planes destroy tanks.

As I understand the situation, human beings can be divided into three categories: the old people, the grown-ups and  the kids. The old people have almost lived their life, whereas the grown-ups are the ones actually responsible for this situation, but children are not part of any of the evil designs. Kids are in no way responsible for this suffering; they have no control over this horrible situation.

I understand that kids cannot call the shots, but at least we can make the grown-ups realize that peace is a must for our growth and well-being, and is our right. We have already fought so many fruitless wars and should now join hands with each other and with all the peace loving people on both sides of the border to promote love and harmony. I am confident that real life Bajrangi Bhaijaans and Sarfrazs who do not betray will join the kids in this noble cause.

Meaning of my name, “Aman” is peace and I am sure that there must be someone with the name of Shanti on the other side of the border thinking the same way as me. Amans and Shanties of the subcontinent should stand up for peace between our two neighboring countries. Let’s also raise our voices against the burning of our schools and tell the people in power that we want peace and we hate war.

Jimi Hendrix said, “When the power of love overcomes the love of power; the world will know the peace.”
