* Is an only child.

* Began her acting career at age twelve with a starring role in the film Léon: The Professional (1994).

* Graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2003.

* Gained recognition for portraying Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequels (1999 – 2005).

* Has since appeared in movies including Closer (2004), V for Vendetta (2005), The Other Boleyn Girl (2008), Black Swan (2010), and Jackie (2016), and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Thor (2011), Thor: The Dark World (2013), and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).

* Upcoming projects include the romcom May December (2023) and the thriller series Lady in the Lake (TBA).

* Has been married since 2012 to dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, with whom she has two children.

* Is an advocate for animal rights and environmental causes.

Tagline: Be a part of her world.

* Musical fantasy; a mermaid princess (Bailey) makes a deal with a sea witch (McCarthy) to trade her voice for legs in order to discover the world above water and impress a human prince.

* Live-action adaptation of the 1989 Disney animated film of the same name which was itself loosely based on the 1837 fairy tale of the same title by Hans Christian Andersen.

* Had a budget of $250 million; has grossed around $225 million.

* Has received mixed reviews from critics who praised some of the performances – particularly Bailey and McCarthy – but opined that the movie lacked joy and creativity.

* Singer Lizzo auditioned and campaigned for the role of Ursula. Melissa McCarthy eventually got the part.

* Score composed by Alan Menken, who previously scored and co-wrote songs for the original film. He wrote new songs for this adaptation alongside producer Lin-Manuel Miranda.

* Might be followed by sequels if it is successful.
