How to work your hair this winter

Asian women have great hair and this Toni & Guy trend show offered a range of polished variations that they can look into for the upcoming season.

Let’s admit it. Women in Pakistan aren’t terribly experimental when it comes to clothing. In summer they’re dictated by lawn joras and in winter they’re either dominated by linen and marina or, if they wear ‘western’, then jeans, sweaters and the customary boots is uniform. There’s the massive wedding season but then most girls and women end up looking and dressing similar on that orbit too. Blame it on cultural restrictions, social expectations, lack of exposure and courage to experiment, but the net result is that women usually consider it easier to dress safe.

The same principle is generally extended to hair as well; ladies go for similar hair colours and blow dries and tend to follow a certain trend en masse. But, thanks to experts and influencers in the hair and beauty circle, things are changing where hair is concerned. This Friday, at a Toni & Guy hair show at the brand’s flagship salon in Karachi, a very slick and polished troupe of models demonstrated what all one could do with one’s hair this season.

Visiting stylists Gary France (Label.m International Education Manager) and Francesco Fontana (International Technical Artistic Director) joined Saeeda Mandviwalla (Creative Artistic Director at TONI&GUY Karachi) to showcase what they called ‘Future Foundation Hair’. All the models were given fresh cuts and colours, resulting in interesting optics. One has to also mention the wardrobe, which was deliciously, clinically white, allowing the hair a clean and minimalist canvas to stand out upon.

“The Future Foundation campaign comprises cut, colour and blow dry techniques that cover all lengths and textures,” press notes elaborated. “It allows you to personalise the haircut to suite the individual. These techniques can be adapted on different lengths and textures to create graduations, inversions, layers and one length precision cuts. Total of 16 haircuts in the collection including 2 men’s haircut, 14 colours and 5 blow dry techniques are the foundation and precision that with time have proved to be extremely successful in the world of TONI&GUY.”

Beyond the Future Foundation hair show, Toni & Guy will be celebrating 10 years in the business, by taking the party to Lahore, this evening. While the event in Karachi was a small presentation, the show tonight promises to pull out all theatrical stops. Several high profile designers from the city will be dressing up different segments, spearheaded by head-turning hair styles. It’s definitely an evening to look forward to.
